Have You Heard of the GlobeIn Subscription Box?
I have a confession to make. Some of the most unique and cherished items I have from abroad didn’t actually come from a trip I took—I got them with my subscription to GlobeIn. It’s an artisan subscription box that arrives full of hand-curated items from all over the world. Even a seasoned traveler like me can struggle to find authentic souvenirs to bring home. Ever noticed that tourist destinations are full of the same souvenirs and knick knacks with different names printed on them in mass? The standard coffee mugs, plates, t-shirts, and some real tourist “junk.” Oh, how I loathe the airport souvenir…
But somehow or another, I almost always end up in that touristy store anyway, buying some junky mug for my friends or family at home. Or at least I used to! Nowadays, I really make an effort to support local artisans, indigenous tribes, and unique tradesmen and artists when I’m traveling. I think my GlobeIn subscription has kept it top of mind for me to seek out and purchase things that are less run-of-the-mill and more one in a million.
I am so excited to share about one of my favorite subscription boxes in this post, but want to be fully transparent first: I’m including affiliate links below that may help me earn a small commission at no cost to you if you choose to click and make a purchase. I only link to products I actually use and recommend. I’m backing GlobeIn because I believe you’ll love it, too!
Traveling to new places is a window into lives that are often very different than your own. The more I travel, the more I love people, the more I see compassion and humility, and the more I recognize that happiness doesn’t come from how much you have but how big your heart is.
I can’t always travel, but something I can do from anywhere is support artisans and local communities. That’s why I love the ethos and mission behind GlobeIn. GlobeIn is a fair trade marketplace that sells and supports third world artisans, metal workers, weavers and artists. I have talked about them before in my Best Subscription Boxes for Travel Lovers guide, but wanted to give you a chance to get to know them and what you can find on their site.
What is GlobeIn’s Mission?
The ethos and mission behind GlobeIn is one of social good and storytelling. They are dedicated to supporting artisans from around the world and in developing countries where, after agriculture, artisan goods are often the second-largest source of employment. Supporting artisans reduces poverty by giving the artisans and their communities a global audience. Subscription boxes like GlobeIn are bringing you and I wonderful, unique gifts and crafts to add culture, color, and brilliance to your home.
Historically, local artisans in many poor communities have lacked the access to global markets. GlobeIn World has changed that. This company has created a platform to connect the artisans in the third world with people all over the globe through its one-of-a-kind subscription boxes and a rotating marketplace that is constantly adding new items and new artisans from all over the world.
How Does GlobeIn Work?
You can buy artisan goods individually on GlobeIn, or pick themed boxes. These options are great to give for an occasion, as a gift, or throughout the year as a subscription. They sell hand-blown glassware, jewelry, hand-painted dishware, baskets, tableware, unique home goods all with a social impact. I have been a monthly subscriber to GlobeIn for many months and have been thrilled with every new box.
These boxes are curated by themes and in any box, you can get a variety of different items from all over the world. Some examples are champagne flutes hand-blown in Mexico, a pizza cutter shaped like a bicycle and made in Italy, hand-ground spices from Africa, and a hand-woven basket for holding warm tortillas made by a woman and her son in Mexico.
The artisan boxes are some of my favorite gifts to give as well. New boxes and items are added every month, but some of my favorites have been the Amore box, the Cheers box, and the Discover box.
Subscribers can save between 30% and 50% on exclusive sales, box add-ons, and VIP sales here.
So far, GlobeIn has invested more than 3.5 million into artisan communities around the world. They work with 11,400 artisans in more than 50 countries and have purchased over 770,000 products in the last 3 years! GlobeIn highlights one artisan or artisan collective every month and asks followers to help crowdfund their special project.
One of the things that I love most are the stories of the artisans. In every box, you get several items with a card that tells you about the life and work of each artisan and how purchasing the item or box is actually helping to support them. I love knowing that purchasing something is actually helping a person and not some big box company with no personal identity.
I loved learning about the mother in Mexico who was weaving tortilla baskets from her home and had hopes of her sons going to college with her earnings, or the gentleman in Thailand carving pizza boards out of Acacia wood.
GlobeIn is by far one of my favorite companies with a solid mission of social good, empowering local communities, and helping those in vulnerable communities find success. They are just as much about giving back as they are about earning a profit. This is truly a value-driven company with a big heart.
