The Summer Midnight Sun in Norway in Tromso
I’ve always wanted to visit the Arctic Circle during the summer to get a chance to see the midnight sun in Norway—or midnattssol, as the Norwegians call it. My Norwegian travel dreams finally came true on a recent trip to Tromsø, Norway, which is the biggest city in northern Norway.
This city’s far-north location makes it absolutely magical year-round. Whether you arrive when it’s blanketed in soft snow as the colorful northern lights dance in the skies overhead, during the decadently dark polar night, or come during the summer to experience the midnight sun, you’re in for a truly enchanting experience here.
Join me by watching the video below to explore more of northern Norway in summer with a stop in Tromsø. The city is located at 69 degrees north in the Arctic Circle. Home to stunning fjords, incredible mountains, and a plethora of adventurous activities, it’s renowned for being one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights in winter.
But in summer, Tromsø experiences the midnight sun, a phenomenon that means the sun doesn’t set for roughly two months! Imagine nearly 1,600 hours of nonstop sunshine beaming down on this sparkling city of the north.
This endless sunshine means you’ll have extra hours to partake in hiking, sailing, biking, running, road tripping, and so much more. Exploring this Arctic city with the best eco-friendly tours and activities, you’ll be able to explore the fjords, journey up to Floya, hike on Whale Island and summit the peak of Segla in Senja, and tour the island of Sommarøy, which might just be the first time-free zone in the world.
I’ll explain it all in detail in the video below, including how to see the midnight sun in Norway when you visit Tromso.
