Getting Around Oslo Norway: Reasons to Use Leiebil

Getting Around Oslo: What’s the Best Transportation Option?

There are different types of tourists. Most people imagine their holidays relaxing and enjoying the beach, with their feet in the warm ocean and a cocktail in their hands. But if you prefer active vacations, you are probably attracted to other places besides tropical destinations and fashionable summer resorts.

Norway is a fascinating country, one of my favorites, that attracts more and more tourists every year. That’s not surprising, considering everything it offers, which can satisfy almost everyone’s vacation needs. Beautiful landscapes, unreal nature, and that cities exude a true North European lifestyle, and great food—Norway has it all, and Oslo is at the heart of every Norwegian adventure.

If you haven’t been to Norway before, you probably want to see a lot. You should start from Oslo, the capital and largest city, something like the epicenter of this country. It will take you a few days to get used to it and even dare to see more of Norway outside the metropolis. For that adventure, renting a car from Leiebil is your best option. I’ll show you why below.

A rental car is your ticket to enjoying the full array of activities and sightseeing Oslo has to offer. I’m sharing what I consider the best rental car option in the city, and may include affiliate links in this post. If you make a purchase or book through my links, I may earn a small commission at no cost to you. Happy traveling!

1. Avoid Traffic Jams

If you’re visiting Oslo from abroad, there are many reasons to rent a car. If you’re traveling for pleasure, you’ll want to avoid crowded public transportation. Norwegians are peaceful and friendly people, but many tourists gravitate to Oslo, so being surrounded by all those people can be a nerve-racking adventure.

By having a rental vehicle just for yourself with Leiebil, you can get out and see the city at your own pace—it’s the perfect solution for getting around Oslo. What’s even better, you can travel alone, having no one to slow you down. You can explore Oslo’s sights on your own and enjoy all the beauty of this city.

2. Save Money

Wherever you travel, it’s possible to save money by renting a car. When getting around Oslo, choose rental companies that offer cars with unlimited mileage. Keep in mind that fuel prices in this country are quite high, so look for electric or hybrid vehicles that bring both comfort and savings. For more on the benefits of electric vehicles, read here.

Check all fees before renting and, whenever you can, book vehicles online. Oslo is one of the cities that charge drivers with a congestion charge. Sometimes a rental company pays for it, and sometimes you do. So before renting a car, make sure to check on that. These fees can be pretty high if you don’t pat them three days after entering the Toll Ring.

3. Freely Tour Oslo

You can pick up a car from Leiebil right from the airport and start sightseeing from the moment you land in Norway. If you head to Oslo, a leisurely car ride will let you enjoy the beautiful nature along the way. The nearest international airport is 30 miles away, so don’t rush while you’re figuring out getting around Oslo.

Having a car just for yourself allows you to see everything Oslo offers. The Royal Palace, National Gallery, and Nobel Peace Center are must-visit places in Oslo. Then, you can take your rental car to the Vigeland Museum or the Viking Ship Museum, both of which are popular tourist attractions. Plus, you’ll be able to go to the nearby Hadeland Glassworks, which is an hour away.

4. Enjoy Norway’s Sights

If you’re looking to venture out of Oslo, a rental car from Leiebil can help you enjoy Norway in all its glory. The beautiful country is home to some of the world’s highest mountains and most spectacular fjords. For example, you can travel from Oslo to Bergen for about eight hours. It’s the perfect way to experience the country, its stunning natural landscapes, and the beautiful scenery along the coast.

5. Norwegian Scenic Routes

A total of 18 roads in Norway are marked as Scenic Routes. Some visitors head for a road trip from Oslo to Bergen; others prefer the Atlantic Road. There are also routes passing through fjords or the Andøya Island, with beautiful beaches. In the summer, you can even swim there. At this link, you’ll see the list of things you should do when in Norway.

Driving down Scenic Routes offers breathtaking views of Norway’s amazing nature. Also, during the summer, you can enjoy the phenomenon of Midnight Sun if you head north. Of course, to experience Norway’s beauty to the fullest, you’d have to stop by many times and just enjoy the view.

There are so many things to see in Norway. You should have a plan and be ready for an adventure. You can go any route you want with a rental car, anytime, and at any pace. Find a reliable rental company like Leiebil, and you’re all set.
