Alice Ford Named Travel Media Competition Winner
PASADENA, CA — The North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) announced that Alice Ford won Gold in the 32nd Annual North American Travel Journalists Awards Competition in the Independent Travel Video category. Alice Ford won Gold for her video Solo Backpacking 50 Miles on Canada’s West Coast Trail (Part 1). The North American Travel Journalists Awards competition honors the best of the best in travel journalism, photography and destination marketing that cover all aspects of the travel industry.

About the Gold-Winning Video
Part One of Alice Ford’s journey solo backpacking 50 miles on the West Coast Trail earned the top honor at the 32nd annual North American Travel Journalists Awards, cementing Ford’s place as an award-winning travel journalist and outdoor enthusiast. The video, which premiered on July 29, 2023, covers her experience hiking the iconic Canadian trail as a solo backpacker.
Ford hiked through forests and along coastal beaches, climbed ladders, traversed bridges, and scrambled over rocks, roots, and logs in her journey on the West Coast Trail. Describing it as “one of the most exciting and beautiful thru hikes” she’s done to date, the video captured Ford’s sense of adventure and committment to providing intriguing content on travel topics.

Selection Process for the North American Travel Journalists Awards
“Submissions for this year’s awards competition included a diverse group of journalists, publications, and destination marketing organizations from North America,” noted North American Travel Journalists Association CEO, Helen Hernandez. “Selection of the winners by our independent panel of judges was particularly difficult this year because of the outstanding quality and broad range of articles, images and marketing campaigns submitted for consideration. I wish to extend my congratulations to all the winners for their exceptional work in enhancing the travel experience of those exploring new destinations and adventures.”
Judges for the North American Travel Journalists Awards competition included award-winning newspaper and magazine editors as well as educators from across journalism disciplines. One first place (Gold) winner is chosen in each of the categories along with second place (Silver), third place (Bronze), and Honorable Mentions. To qualify for North American Travel Journalists Awards or honors, all work had to be published from October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023.
