After tons of research planning my own Western Canary Islands itinerary, I’ve come up with the best plan for adventure seekers, hikers, and those looking to get off the beaten path. It was an incredible experience for me, and if you enjoy the outdoors and exploring new places, I know this 7-day itinerary will be right in line with what you’re looking for!
Here’s a quick overview of my 7-day Western Canary Islands itinerary.

Day 1: Arrive in Tenerife
Day 2: Explore Tenerife
Day 3: Visit La Gomera
Day 4: Adventures in La Gomera
Day 5: Arrive in La Palma
Day 6: Explore El Hierro
Day 7: Fly from El Hierro to Tenerife to Spain and home

DAY 1 – Tenerife
The first day of your Western Canary Islands itinerary, you’ll arrive in Tenerife and start exploring to get a feel for the island.
- Arrival in Tenerife
- Stay in Puerto de la Cruz or Los Cristianos
- Depending on your arrival time, take the evening to stroll the city, have a mojito on the beach, and enjoy some fresh seafood
DAY 2 – Tenerife
On day 2, you’re in for a scenic drive, an incredible national park, and time spent on the beach or on the water.
- Drive the winding roads to Masca
- Visit Teide National Park & the tallest mountain in Spain
- Enjoy the beach or hop on a sailboat to see whales and dolphins

DAY 3- La Gomera
For day 3 in the Western Canary Islands itinerary, head over to La Gomera on a ferry to do some adventuring for the day.
- Hop on the ferry from Los Cristianos to San Sebastian de La Gomera in the early morning for a full day of adventure in La Gomera
- Check Ferry Times (1 Hour)
- On La Gomera, rent a car or scooter and explore the Enchanted Forest
DAY 4- La Gomera
By day 4 of the itinerary, you’ll be ready to do some hiking and set off for La Palma at the end of the day.
- Explore more of the enchanted forest and Roque de Agando with a morning hike
- Lunch at a Guachinche in the park, followed by an afternoon swim.
- Before setting off in the evening for the island of La Palma
DAY 5 – La Palma
For one of the most incredible sights in your 7-day Western Canary Islands itinerary, rise early and head up to the highest point on the island by car, Roque de los Muchachos. Watching the sunrise over the mountain and its sea of clouds will be something you will never forget.
- Explore the observatories and telescopes near the summit
- Head down through the forests of Canary Island Palms
- Stop for a walk at the Tilos waterfall
- Back to town for dinner and some relaxation on the beach before calling it a night
DAY 6- El Hierro
After arriving on El Hierro by ferry, it’s time for some hiking, unique landscapes, and swimming.
- Hop in the car and set out for a hike on the Jinama Trail to the highest point on the island
- In the afternoon head to see the mystical juniper trees of El Hierro at El Sabinar for the sunset
- Time permitting, visit Charco Azul or one of the other seaside swimming holes for a swim
DAY 7 – Tenerife
As your 7-day Western Canary Islands itinerary winds to a close, you’ll head back to Tenerife, then Spain to board a flight home.
- Head back to Tenerife today by ferry or plane
- Fly to Spain
- Depart back home
I planned this 7-day Western Canary Islands itinerary as a way to do as much exploring around some of my favorite islands as possible. There’s plenty of downtime for swimming, strolls, and scenic drives. Expect to catch some perfect sunsets while you’re here—and be sure to bring a camera!
