Best Outdoor Destinations for Valentine’s Day Adventures
Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love and romance, but once you’ve been a couple for a long time or prefer real adventure to quiet dinners out, the same old ideas can get stale or boring fast. This year, try something new and go on an adventure! Here are some fun trip ideas in North America that will help to inspire your Valentine’s Day plans.
1. Take a Hike to Heart Rock Falls
Located in San Bernardino County, Heart Rock Falls (also known as Seeley Falls) is a 20-foot waterfall located at the end of the Seeley Creek Trail. The trail itself is approximately 1.3 miles, making it an easy hike. But what draws people to these falls is the heart-shaped hole right next to the falls—perfect for V-Day.
Make your visit to Heart Rock Falls a weekend getaway with a stay at The North Shore Inn. The North Shore Inn is steps away from all kinds of activities, including hiking, boating, and fishing.
Insider Tip: Up the romance and book a room with a fireplace. It makes for the perfect place to cuddle up after a long day of adventures.
2. Stay at a Treehouse in Asheville, North Carolina
Visiting Asheville any time of year is a real treat, but visiting during Valentine’s Day is extra special! That’s because Asheville is home to some of the most unique and romantic hotels in the country, like the The Biltmore Estate. If you are looking for something even more unique to get into with your honey, consider staying in a treehouse or a tree castle like this one.
Yes, you read that right. Treehouses are becoming an increasingly popular destination for couples looking for a unique and romantic getaway. And there is no shortage of them in Asheville. If you want to feel like you are living out a fairy tale with your Prince or Princess Charming, this is the perfect place to do it.
You can easily spend the weekend enjoying the views from your treehouse or take a drive along the blue ridge parkway. If the weather permits, go on a sunset hike to Craggy Pinnacle. You can end your day at one of the many excellent restaurants right in downtown Asheville.
3. Swim with Sea Turtles in Hawaii
Looking for a bit of sand and sea? If so, head to the Islands of Hawaii. Hawaii is an excellent destination for Valentine’s Day because it offers something for everyone—explore the volcanic mountains, hike through rain forests, laze on the beach, and swim with sea turtles.
You can book a tour that takes you to the Molokini Crater and Turtle Town. The extinct volcanic cone of Molokini, located off the south coast of Kihei and standing 300 feet (91 meters) above sea level, provides a unique opportunity to observe native Hawaiian marine life in its natural habitat, including manta rays and sharks.
After visiting the Molokini Crater, head to Turtle Town, where you can swim with the Hawaiian green sea turtles. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day.
4. Do a Wine Tasting & Ride Horses in Sonoma’s Wine Country
If you and your sweetheart are wine lovers, consider heading to the heart of California’s wine country in Sonoma. Sonoma is known for its beautiful scenery, delicious food, and most importantly, its excellent wines. But did you know that Sonoma has over 400 wineries? It can be challenging to choose just one to visit in such a short amount of time, but the good news? There are tons of options.
Start your day with a hot air balloon tour over the Sonoma Valley. Followed by a day of wine tasting, the Sonoma Wine Trolley is a great way to visit some of the area’s best wineries. If you’re looking for a unique experience in the vineyards, you can also go on a horseback riding tour. Sonoma Valley Trail Rides offers tours that take you through the vineyards on horseback.
Spend the weekend at the Fairmont, where you can treat yourself to the spa or spend the day enjoying the fantastic weather by the pool.
5. Hit the Slopes and Sip in Whistler
Last but not least, you can head to the slopes for a snowy, romantic Valentine’s Day with plenty of adventure and a chance to escape to the mountains.
Whistler is one of my favorite places to ski, and it’s only a few hours away from Vancouver. You can easily spend the weekend enjoying the slopes, spas, and restaurants. And if you’re looking for a real adventure, you can go heli-skiing and Whistler Blackcomb. Heli-skiing is an adrenaline-pumping activity that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience—imagine riding in a helicopter and jumping out of it to ski down the side of the mountain!
After an adrenaline-filled day, spend the night at a modern mountain chalet like this one. Order in or splurge on a private chef to prepare the perfect Valentine’s meal. I can’t think of a better way to spend your Valentine’s Day with someone special!
Outdoor Destinations + Valentine’s Day=Pure Love
If you are looking for Valentine’s Day plans that are a little more adventurous, consider heading to one of these fantastic outdoor destinations. You can explore the volcanic mountains, hike through rain forests, swim with sea turtles, wine taste your way through Sonoma Valley, or hit the slopes with your sweetie. No matter where you choose to go, I’m sure you will have an unforgettable Valentine’s Day together.
